What turns my crank
I have had a fair amount of spare time the past two months and have spent a fair chunk looking for new music. The best group that I have discovered is Youth Lagoon. A link to one of their best tunes is at the bottom of the page. If it doesn't rock your socks off you need to repent.
If you enjoy that, you will love the signal with Laurie Brown. She's quite the older lady and has the best musical taste. If musical taste equaled beauty she would be perfection.
The past couple weeks I have fell head over heals into a classic novel, "Of human bondage." It's set in the late 19th century in Europe. It's a tale of Philip Carey, who lost his mother as a young child, was born with a club foot and deals with hardship and change as he goes through adolescence and into adulthood. After his mother dies, Philip moves in with his aunt and uncle; his uncle is an anglican Vicar (minister) and as a child plans to become a minister like his uncle. Shortly after moving in with his aunt and uncle, he's sent to private school. As he goes through school he becomes isolated in light of the torment from his classmates making fun of his club foot.
As a child he prays to God with belief that the the lord can cure his club foot. However, after the lord doesn't heal him, he loses his childlike faith and becomes disillusioned. As a young adult he loses his faith entirely and seeks new purpose in his life through art and love.
It's a tremendous read.
