Happiness vs. Peace
Happiness shouldn’t be our focus, because the goal of happiness is to fulfill our own desires. Rather, the pursuit of peace should be our goal. Peace is found through contemplation and prayer. In this lifestyle we look at both our own depths: which include our own longings and short-comings, and we see our neighbors struggles. Happiness on the other hand is a solitary pursuit which avoids suffering and pain and floats at the surface. It avoids sacrifice because of fear of discomfort, while in contemplation and prayer one is drawn to act rather than avoid. Although happiness feels pleasant, it isn't fulfilling or enduring because it lacks the unity found at the core of the pursuit of peace.
